Gatlinburg Day One

I almost forgot that I said I would write in my blog more often. I am currently in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It is by far one of my favorite places in the world...not that I have been many places in the world. But, if I had, I'm sure it would still be one of my favorites. :-) We got here yesterday after a ten-hour drive. It usually doesn't take that long but the bridge was out in Knoxville, and then we got lost, but we finally made it to our hotel around 11p.m. OMG our room is fabulous! It has a king-size bed, a balcony overlooking the creek, and a fireplace. I was going to talk Tony into booking the cheaper room - just because I hate to spend the extra money on upgrades - but the extra money is so worth it. I absolutely love the fireplace. Now, I want one in my house. Tony keeps looking at it to see if we could install one. ;-)

So, this morning we got up early, ate breakfast and headed next door to the Tram. Once we were up the mountain, I got my skis and Tony got a snowboard and up the ski lift we went. Bad idea. I probably should have tried the bunny slope first. I got off the ski lift and fell on my face. Then, I realized I couldn't even stand up! OMG I am on top of a mountain and the only way down is to ski! Fast forward two hours later and I am sitting half-way down the mountain. I got this far by sliding on my back. I finally just decided to take the skis off and walk down. I fell a couple times after that by stepping on ice. Once I fell right on my knee. Ouch. It is black. Not to mention the huge knot on my leg and all the bruises covering my body. It was rough. I felt like crying a couple times, but I didn't. I kept it in! Once I finally got back down the mountain I put my skis on and headed to the bunny slope to learn how to ski. Then, I had fun. :-) We headed back to the hotel, rested a while, got some pizza and how Tony is passed out. And, we are planning on ice skating tomorrow?!
